My passion for choral music started when I was a student at the conservatory and found out what it does to you when you sing together with other people. You add your voice to those of others and instantly a world of sound evolves that otherwise would not be there and is unique, because every human voice is unique. After more than twenty years as a choral conductor I can still get goose bumps from a single chord, formed by tens of voices in a resonant pianissimo or a fortissimo passage with brutal bright vowels. What a magnificent instrument the choir is, indeed!
As an independent entrepreneur I alternate my musical activities as a conductor and arranger with freelance jobs in the IT sector. I like this variation and it keeps me sharp. I’ve got my working area at home and arrange from my attic room with a large window offering a wide view over the roofs a small village and constantly changing Dutch skies. I am happily married and have two lovely daughters of primary school age. At night I am often away from home to rehearse, and then it is nice to be home during the day and be a part of the family life.
As an arranger I had the luck to be able to work with orchestra as well as with choirs, varying from big symphonic orchestra’s to string quartets and from wind band to theater orchestra. That experience I take with me when I arrange for ChorusOnline and I always strive for a sound as rich as possible. The choir is the centerpiece that has to shine and bring the song to the audience, but the combo may certainly expect colorful and playable parts.
Music brings people together in a harmonious way. ChorusOnline makes a beautiful catalogue of modern choral music available for everyone worldwide and I am happy to be able to contribute to that.
